Year 10 Design & Technology Trip to Shotton Paper Mill

The Yr 10 pupils studying Design and Technology visited the Paper Mill at Shotton on Thursday 4th July which included a guided tour of the site so that the pupils could gain valuable insight into the systems and methods of paper manufacturing and recycling. They observed the whole process from the warehouse where recycled paper and card is deposited, then where the recycled paper is broken down and pulped ready for the inks, colour and other contaminants to be removed. We observed where the paper was bleached before it was then dried and then drawn out rolled onto huge drums of paper already cut to the sizes required by the newspaper printers. It was a fascinating tour, which enabled the pupils to see for themselves lots of our learning in the classroom.
