Welcome to you all – pupils past and present, parents and Old Kingsmeadians. Welcome also to the parents and grandparents who are considering a Kingsmead education for the children in their families.
Kingsmead School was founded in 1904, to provide an environment “ideal for learning well”. Although much has altered since then, this aspect of the school is unchanged: we still offer a wholly pupil-centred, holistic education. As such we are one of Merseyside’s leading independent schools. We achieve the best GCSE results in Wirral for all-ability schools.
What Kingsmead has to offer its families is different firstly because of the size of the school: we keep classes small to ensure that children here are known – and taught – as individuals. Next, we combine high expectations of conduct with ready praise for effort. Lastly, we regard our whole school community as an extended family. These factors contribute greatly to the spirit of affection, camaraderie and respect in every area of the school: Kingsmead pupils really do care about and respect each other.
They also get on very well with their teachers. In the classroom, we give however much time and trouble is needed to help each pupil reach their full potential. Our high fliers excel, but more importantly, all our children have the opportunity to really succeed. Whatever their aptitudes and interests, all those who join us discover all they need is here.
This is why, I believe, so many of our pupils have gone on to become Kingsmead parents – and grandparents – in their turn: they know we offer a firm foundation for future life because they benefited from Kingsmead too. A Kingsmead education remains, over a century after the school’s foundation, an exceptional start in life for children.
It is both a privilege and a pleasure to be headmaster of a school which values the individual so highly, achieves such excellent outcomes across all abilities and which is held in such regard and affection by its community, both past and present. I am extremely proud of Kingsmead.
