Dear Parents and Guardians,
Despite the cold, grey and very wet weather we have enjoyed a veritable feast of Christmas treats to end another successful term at Kingsmead. Two weeks ago it was the turn of the musicians and the Junior Department who entertained us with ukuleles, chime bells, drums, pianos, woodwind instruments and beautiful voices. Thank you to Mrs Williamson for her organisation, inspiration and sense of fun in all this.
Last week, it was the turn of the youngest members of our school to delight us with their nativity play “Everyone Loves a Baby.” I was particularly moved by the signing and singing of Silent Night and thank you to George and Leah for teaching the children to do this.
Moving on to this week, there are a few practical reminders around our lovely Carol Service with which we end the term. Children will not need their PE bags or school bags tomorrow. All pupils should be dressed in neat, clean uniform including blazers and all boys should wear ties for the service. All of the children will be walking from school, through Hoylake to St Luke’s and therefore coats should be worn. You are all warmly welcomed to attend the Carol Service which starts at 3.00pm. It is a heart-warming event and a wonderful way to celebrate the end of term and the beginning of the holiday. The service will end at 4.00pm when the children should be collected from their form teacher. If you are unable to attend the service, please arrange for your child to be collected from St Luke’s by 4.15pm when term ends. We do not return to school after the service and there will not be any after school clubs on Tuesday.
Children in the EYFS Department and Year 1 and 2 end their term a little earlier at 12.30pm, however you are most welcome to come with them to the Carol Service if you are able to do so.
I am sure that you have all seen our smart PE new kit, including new school coat which some pupils are now beginning to wear. We are delighted to see the children looking so well turned out when they represent our school. The new kit is available from ID Uniforms in Hoylake, details of which can be found on our website.
Friday afternoon saw all the excitement of the annual Christmas Fayre and in fact, I spotted Santa making an early appearance as he went to visit our EYFS department earlier on Friday morning. Thank you to all the Friends of Kingsmead who work so hard to give our children these wonderful experiences. Thank you to the Kingsmead Community choir too, who serenaded us.
Many of our Year 10 and 11 children have already begun revision for the mock GCSEs which start immediately upon our return in January and the Year 10 internal exams that start a little later. Teachers have been providing holiday revision timetables for their subjects and whilst it is important that they do as much as they can to keep the momentum going at this critical time of their education, they must also take some time to relax and enjoy the festivities.
I would like to wish you all a happy and peaceful Christmas and look forward to the safe return of all of our pupils on Wednesday 8th January 2020.
