Dear Parents,

What glorious weather we have enjoyed this half term and as ever our wonderful outdoor space has been in full use as the children enjoy rounders and cricket matches as well as athletics, tri-golf, Forest Club and simply playing on the field.

The Early Years children and Years 1 and 2 showed us all their prowess and some newly acquired skills as they hopped, ran and even dived over the finishing line during their Sports Day yesterday.   What a lovely afternoon it was and thank you to all the extended family members who supported the children with us.

However, it is not only in the outdoor arena that our Kingsmead children have excelled this term and I am delighted to announce that Finley Ellis, Thomas Bush, Thania Parker, Nick Swift and Eleanor Walsh have been awarded their Duke of York Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award under Mr Glover’s guidance.  In addition, both Mary Sanderson in Year 3 and Elizabeth Gadsdon in Year 2 have been awarded their ABRSM Copper Music Medals on the recorder.  Elizabeth is the youngest child that Mrs Kemp has taught who has achieved this distinction.  Last, but by no means least, our Year 8 Salters Challenge Chemistry Team, comprising Joshua Dooley, Lee Currie, Nick Swift and Paul O’Hare came third against a very challenging field of local schools.

Our Year 11 children and Mrs Eaton, our indefatigable Exam’s Officer, have been hard at work for the last two weeks and will no doubt all enjoy a little breathing space over the half term break.  I do hope that the children take this opportunity to rest and revise in equal measure as they prepare for the final stretch.

As always at this time of year, we have to say goodbye to some well-loved members of staff, many of whom have served Kingsmead and our children for a considerable length of time. This week we say goodbye to Miss Curtis our receptionist leaving us after 11 years of service to join the team at Sacred Heart School.   Just after half term, Mrs Wilkinson one of our Learning Support Assistants is changing career to become a school secretary.  In July, we will also be bidding farewell to Mrs Adamson, who is retiring after 20 years of dedicated and loving service and to Mrs Mallery after 9 years of dispensing wisdom and nurture in equal measure to our younger children, who is relocating to the North East (home) to enjoy being nearer to her extended family.  Mrs Cowan who has led our Early Years Department so ably leaves us to retire (very early) to North Wales.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of these Kingsmeadians, on your behalf, for their hard work and loving care of your children.

Meanwhile we are recruiting new staff to join our team and I am delighted that Mr Andy Cotgrave will be joining us as our new Director of PE in September and Mrs Emma Harvey will be our new Head of EYFS also from September. I will update you once we have made further appointments.

We have just received a copy of our latest all-school photo which is on display in reception.  Your son/daughter will bring an order home with them this afternoon.

I hope that you all have a lovely half term and I look forward to seeing the children on Monday 4th June at 8.30am and many of you at the Casino Royale Ball at Leasowe Castle Hotel on Saturday 23rd June!

Yours faithfully,
