As many longstanding members of the Kingsmead community will know, we traditionally enter our children for English Speaking Board examinations at this time of year. This year has been no different and our children in Year 2, Year 3, Year 5, Year 7 and Year 9 have all been working hard towards this end. I am delighted to announce that thus far in the Years 2, 3 and 5 groups, fifteen of our children have been awarded Distinctions. Whilst the Distinctions are wonderful, they do not tell the story of those for whom standing up and speaking at all in front of people has been challenging. I feel that the expectation that the children see it through helps develop determination to succeed, in addition to resilience.
Our EYFS and Infant Department enjoying the annual egg rolling competition this morning at Queen’s Park.
This afternoon we will be ending the term with the annual staff v lads football match. Always a much anticipated occasion, especially by the Year 11’s! This year it is being viewed with some trepidation amongst some of the members of staff. I already have an ice pack and hot water bottle being applied to my back in advance of the game…
As many of you will know, Mrs Helen Minghella is leaving us at the end of the term, having provided After School Care particularly to our Infants for a number of terms now. We have enormously appreciated her dedication and commitment and wish her well as she moves into other teaching settings.
Also farewell and our thanks to Mr Gerry Murphy who has stepped into the breach of the Music Department and provided ballast until Mrs Williamson arrives next term. The pupils have thoroughly enjoyed Mr Murphy’s lessons; it is no small gift to be able to teach music to 2 year olds and 16 year olds.
A reminder that the Friends’ of Kingsmead Summer Ball booking forms have been sent out for our event at Leasowe Castle on Saturday 23 June. The table settings are in groups of up to 10, so it would be lovely if each year group could make up a table. Please extend the invitation to your wider friends and family groups too.
I wish you all a lovely Easter Break. You may be aware of ‘Christ’s Passion for Wirral’ which promises to show the Easter Story this weekend on the Wirral through Music, Art and Drama.
We look forward to school starting on Monday 23rd April 2018.
