Department : Mathematics
Mr Wilson studied at Westhill College Birmingham where he was awarded a B.Ed (Hons) in Maths. He worked as a Primary School Teacher for five years, four of them at Christ Church Primary School in Moreton. He then decided to try secondary teaching and worked for a year teaching Years 7, 8 & 9 at the old Park High School. He joined Kingsmead in September 2002 and began by teaching in the Juniors and Seniors. Since then he has been promoted to Senior Master and does all his teaching with the Seniors.
However, Mr Wilson keeps in touch with the Junior children through weekly Running Club and the Cross-Country races – normally between 20 and 30 cross-country or athletic events each year. As well as teaching Maths and some Games, he is responsible for the pastoral care in the Senior Department.
Mr Wilson is also a GCSE examiner for Maths with the AQA exam board which gives him a good insight into how GCSE papers are constructed and marked. He also has a small Maths tuition business in which he provides private one-to-one maths lessons.
When not in school he lives locally with his wife and four children, one of whom attends Kingsmead. He is a member of St Mary’s Church, Upton where he helps to lead the Explorers group, and he is a member of the Children’s Management Committee. He is also a keen sportsman and runs for Wallasey Running Club, plays football, competes in Triathlons and cycles to school most days.
