Years 10-11 (GCSE) curriculum
Kingsmead's GCSE options programme is wide-ranging and well resourced, and a sound preparation for post-16 education. Each year, the strengths of the Year 9 cohort are assessed to see how the Options programme can be adapted to their needs. When this is finalised, parents and students have the opportunity to seek the advice of teachers before making their GCSE choices. English and Mathematics are core subjects, as is a short course in RE. Science is available on a single-subject basis as well as a general course, and Media Studies is introduced alongside English Literature. GCSE PE attracts many students, and others enjoy Food Technology or Expressive Arts, including Music. History and Geography are popular choices; Art and Design Technology appeal to many. French and Spanish are both available to GCSE, and other subjects may be available outside the normal curriculum. Kingsmead has excellent links with a number of local state schools where good Sixth Form provision is made, as well as with independent schools in the region and indeed beyond.
