Damp but triumphant!

Of the many traditions which still punctuate the Kingsmead year, the annual end-of-summer-term trek to Moel Famau and the walk round its base (for younger ones) and to the top (for the older ones) is one of the most enduring.

There is little which can prevent it taking place.

The 2012 Summer of Rain, however, is one such. As our pictures show, the decision to cancel the whole-school Moel Famau excursion in favour of a pared back and more local outing was a triumph of good sense over inclination.

Instead on Friday, Years 3 - 10, accompanied by Headmaster Mark Gibbons and the teaching staff and support assistants, travelled via coach to Thurstaston, where despite the pouring rain they proved their mettle and strode down the Wirral Way together.

Some were kitted out in wet weather gear, D of E style. Some sang, others listened to music or chatted with friends. Mr Lupson - who else? - brought his umbrella (he says he does like to keep his hair dry) but most just revelled in the unaccustomed sensation of a total drenching in warm, battering rain. It wasn't Moel Famau, but it was memorable!
