Mr E A Phillips

Department: P.E.

Ernie Phillips was born and raised on the Wirral, attending Wallasey Grammar School.

His first working role was with Wirral Borough Council where he worked within the Leisure Services department. He began to be drawn towards personnel management within that organisation, a specialism which took him ultimately to the Education Department.

Inspired by what he saw, Mr Phillips decided he wanted to go into teaching, and was awarded a place at Liverpool University, from where he graduated with a degree in history and PE.

Before his appointment to Kingsmead, which was then a Preparatory School, Mr Phillips was lecturing, having also managed a gymnasium and been involved in sports fundraising.

Growing up on Merseyside in the sixties gave Mr Phillips a love of music as well as sport, and an affection for Everton FC which he retains to this day. He is an enthusiastic musician and amateur photographer, enjoying tennis, golf, cycling and walking.

Both Mr PhillipsÂ’ two sons, Shaun and Mark, attended Kingsmead to the age of 16, and he still enjoys the real family atmosphere around the school. Mr Phillips loves the variety of his work, and enjoys the company of the Kingsmead community at every level.
