History

GCSE curriculum

History is a popular choice at GCSE and has a good record of success at Kingsmead. The course allows students to follow a wide-ranging syllabus and to study History in a variety of ways. It is supported in the classroom by excellent text books and videos and we have day trips to Leeds, Manchester and Norton Priory.

In Year 10 students will do:

  • Development Study on Medicine and Public Health from pre-historic times to the present day (supported by a visit to the Thackray Medical Museum in Leeds and by an exam workshop in Manchester).
  • A Local Study - Norton Priory  (Coursework only - 12.5%) A whole day visit resulting in two essays similar to those completed after field trips in Yrs 7, 8 & 9.

In Year 11 students will complete A Study of Multicultural Britain (Coursework only - 12.5%). An opportunity to discover the roots of this important issue and to follow events as they unfold in newspapers, TV and the internet.

  • A Depth Study: Germany 1918-1945. In contrast to Paper I, this unit looks at a very short period of time in great detail (The exam workshop in Manchester supports this topic).
