2 Dec 2016: Safer cycling with Bikeability
This term, students in Years 6, 7 and 8 had the opportunity to take part in Bikeability. All pupils seemed to enjoy their training and gained the relevant level with a certificate and badge awarded on completion of the course. Well done everyone!
Bikeability aims to give children practical skills and understanding how to cycle on today’s roads, to help make them safe and confident road users.
There are three Bikeability levels covering everyting from the basics of balance and control, all the way to planning and making an independent journey on busier roads.
Level 1 concentrates on learning proper control of the bike in a protected environment, Level 2 takes place on local streets with trainees learning how to deal with traffic on short journeys and recognize typical hazards. Level 3 equips trainees with skills for more challenging roads and traffic situations – busier streets, queuing traffic, complex junctions and roundabouts. It also includes planning routes for safe cycling.
