The exciting new developments at Kingsmead continue apace. As you may have read in our local press, we are gearing up to opening boarding in September of this year. To this end, Mrs Bradbury has recently returned from a very successful three week trip to India where she was marketing our school. Our Chairman of Governors, Mr Tim Turvey and I have also been on business trips to India in the last few months and with each visit we are strengthening our ties and developing relationships with schools there. The introduction of boarding will include flexi, weekly and full boarding to accommodate all student and parent needs as well as students visiting from overseas. As in the past, each boarding house will be run by an experienced House master or House mistress, and be supported by our pastoral team. The next stage in our development includes the opening of the new Sixth Form, which follows two successive years where we have achieved the best GCSE results for all ability schools in Wirral.
At the beginning of the term our Year 11 students wrote their mock exams and we were encouraged by their results. They have had feedback from all their teachers in preparation for the final push before the Summer Term. Year 7 and Year 10 in the Senior Department have followed with their exams. We are very confident of our relationships, systems and assessment throughout the school which are enabling us to get the very best out of our pupils. There are reports being distributed this half term for the children in Year 1 – Year 6 and Years 7 – 9, as always please do not hesitate to contact any of the relevant teachers or myself if you have any concerns or areas that you would like to follow up on. We know that we are not perfect and always welcome the opportunity to discuss your children with you.
I am delighted to announce that Mrs Williamson will be joining us in the Summer Term as Head of Music. Mrs Williamson joins us from West Kirby Girls Grammar School where she has been teaching Music for a number of years. Mrs Williamson has been proactive in engaging with and adding to our peripatetic music provision. I have appreciated very much the role that Mr Murphy has played this term as our Music teacher in the interim, he has been very professional, relational and engaged.
Our Friends of Kingsmead have sent out their initial ‘Save the Date’ information brochure for our Casino Royale Ball at Leasowe Castle on Saturday 23rd June 2018. It would be lovely if you could come; there are usually tables of 10, and if parents from each class could make this up that would be excellent.
We are looking to expand our bus route that brings pupil to and from school. As such Mrs Evans, our Bursar, will be sending letters to you to see if we are able to support you in any way.
On the transport note, we continue to have parents who park dangerously and/or illegally to pick up and drop off their children. It is often dangerous for their own children and for other innocent people. This has led to frustration levels rising and embarrassing incidents of parents and care givers being rude and angry to each other. Please may I appeal to you all to follow the rules of the road and common sense.
I wish you all a peaceful, restful and healthy half term break.
