We are delighted to announce that boarding is being re-introduced this September. This, and the opening a new Sixth Form, make Kingsmead Merseyside’s only mainstream full boarding school, and able to offer more in the region than ever before in our 114 year history.
The decision to re-introduce boarding has been made in response to parent feedback and to international demand; it will start in September 2018. There will be a range of options including flexi, weekly and full boarding to accommodate all student and parent needs, and students visiting from overseas. As in the past, each boarding house will be run by an experienced Housemaster or Housemistress, and be supported by Kingsmead’s celebrated pastoral team.
Headmaster Mark Gibbons explains: “Boarding is a flexible solution to the modern demands upon many different families. Opening boarding again means we can offer children from Wirral and all over the region the opportunity to study hard, socialise safely and achieve their potential while their parents meet heavy work commitments. We will also be able to offer day pupils the ability to “sleep over” if their parents are called away – an exciting novelty for them, and a boon for their wider families in times of unscheduled absence.”
The announcement of the new Sixth Form at Kingsmead follows two successive years in which we have achieved the best GCSE results for all-ability schools in Wirral – an astonishing 92% of our pupils passing five or more subjects last year.
“Until now pupils left us at 16, continuing their studies elsewhere. We will soon be able to prepare our students for university entrance, initially offering a range of subjects at A level and B Tech, with International Baccalaureate following soon after” said Mr Gibbons.
“Our promise is to get the best from every pupil, irrespective of their baseline ability. Our consistently excellent GCSE results prove that this has not been an empty promise. Now we will be able to continue delivering this commitment right up to 18 – and to young people from further afield. These are very exciting times at Kingsmead.”
Full details of the plans are being released this week and will be shared with visiting families during the 10.15am Headmaster’s Address at the Open Morning on Saturday 10 March.
