On Friday 7 July, a group of creative Year 7 and 8 pupils spent the morning working with clay in Wirral Met Art School’s ceramics department to create animal faces.

Mrs Higgs led the workshop, and the pupils plus Kingsmead staff helpers stepped out of their usual comfort zone, experimenting with the slab technique of making ceramic relief tiles. Ms Byrne literally made ‘a pig’s ear’ for her piggy portrait and entertained us all with her puns.

Everyone worked really hard and enjoyed the experience of working in a dedicated ceramics studio. The tiles will be fired over the summer and brought back to school for decorating in September.

A fun morning was had by all.
